Middleware Mash-Up Dallas: A Recap by Avada Software
Avada Software had the honor of hosting the Middleware Mash-Up Dallas at Topgolf in The Colony on November 8th, 2023. This event was an opportunity for professionals in the industry to share insights and strategies for modernizing and optimizing their IBM MQ systems.
Ray Daniel from IBM delivered the opening session, spotlighting the capabilities of IBM Cloud Pak for Integration and its role in enabling robust multi-style integration for diverse hosting environments.
David Ware, IBM MQ’s Chief Architect, continued with an informative session, offering clarity on the unique roles that Apache Kafka and IBM MQ play in the messaging and event streaming landscape, providing guidance for attendees on technology selection.
Following the morning’s sessions, Middleware Mash-Up Dallas resumed post-lunch with ‘MQ in the Cloud’, presented by Nick Glowacki from IBM. This session addressed the architectural considerations and best practices for migrating MQ applications to the cloud, a topic of significant relevance to the attendees.
The day’s discussions were continued with an interactive Q&A session, where a panel of experts fielded questions from attendees.
After the Q&A session, our own Peter D’Agosta took the stage. Peter presented ‘Managing MQ in Hybrid, Multi, Anything Cloud?’, focusing on the challenges of modernization projects. He discussed the importance of maintaining observability, reporting, and analytics capabilities, and providing the right level of access to application teams. Peter’s session went into the necessity of adopting an end-user perspective to avoid common pitfalls and offered practical tips on preparing lower environments to prevent surprises in production settings.
Middleware Mash-Up Dallas also featured a Panel Discussion on IBM MQ Optimization Lessons Learned, moderated by Nick Glowacki. Panelists, including David Corbett, Greg Hanson, Miles Roty, and Peter D’Agosta, shared their real-world experiences and practical advice, covering topics such as cloud optimization, high availability, containerization, and simplifying administration.
Miles Roty from TxMQ concluded the presentations, focusing on the deployment of cost-effective, highly available IBM MQ solutions in the cloud, suitable for businesses that prioritize performance and resiliency.
The event wrapped up with a networking session at Topgolf, offering attendees a chance to relax and connect.
Additionally, we were excited to announce the IBM North Texas Integration User Group, a new resource for local professionals to connect and share expertise. We encourage all interested parties to join the community to stay up-to-date with the latest resources and community events, like Middleware Mash-Up Dallas.
